PERFORMANCE LEVELS

COMPETITIVE

Suitable for dancers with minimal to no competitive experience who train in entry-level classes.

Suitable for competitive dancers who train up to 5 hours per week.

Suitable for competitive dancers who train 6 or more hours per week.

Please note that dancers who qualify for a particular competitive level may bump up to the next level, but may NOT bump down a level.

ADJUDICATION ONLY

Designed for Pre-Pro level dancers enrolled in intensive training programs focused on technique and artistic expression. These dancers are typically training 10 or more hours per week.

Dancer’s age must be entered as of January 1, 2021. Our registration system will automatically classify each entry by the average age (dropping the decimal) of the participants.

GENRES

Utilizes classical dance technique with 4 or more acrobatic elements that demonstrate controlled movement and flexibility such as walkover, aerials, back handsprings, etc.

Utilizes ballet technique, including classical steps and movements. Ballet shoes must be worn.

Utilizes combines styles of jazz and lyrical with an emphasis on modern technique.

Utilizes hip hop, break, street, and funk technique and choreography.

Utilizes jazz technique and style.

Utilizes the lyrics and mood of the music to demonstrate expressive movements.

Utilizes modern technique and style.

Utilizes music from a Broadway Musical or movie demonstrate movements.

Utilizes a combination of dance styles that do not directly “fit” into one of the above categories.

Utilizes pointe technique, including classical steps and movements. Pointe shoes must be worn.

Utilizes pom-poms to demonstrate precises and definite movements.

Utilizes tap technique and style. Tap shoes must be worn.

JUDGE QUALIFICATIONS

 COMPETITIVE

Novice, Classic and Select level performances will be evaluated by a panel of highly qualified, well-rounded professional educators who have extensive experience working with all ages and levels of dancers.

ADJUDICATION ONLY

Pre-Pro level performances will be evaluated by a panel of highly qualified, well-rounded judges, including working professionals who are uniquely qualified to evaluate Concert Work.

MUSIC

All music must be uploaded through the Elevation registration system one week prior to the competition. We highly recommend that you have a digital backup copy on hand for each entry.

A NOTE ON APPROPRIATENESS…

We strive to cultivate a family-friendly atmosphere where performances are age appropriate and tasteful. Elevation on Tour will support the judging panel in the deduction of points for inappropriate music, costume, or movement. These deductions will be clearly indicated on the scoresheet and within the critique.

Two of the judges will evaluate each performance on a traditional 100 point scale. The scoresheet breakdown will be as follows:

One judge will evaluate and deliver a critique focused on Technique and Execution on a 50 point scale. The scoresheet breakdown for this specialized adjudicator will be as follows:

One judge will evaluate and deliver a critique focused on the Artistry Components of the scoresheet on a 50 point scale. The scoresheet breakdown for this specialized adjudicator will be as follows:

Scores from each of the judges are totaled and an adjudication award is given based on the following scale:

AWARDS

NOVICE

Each performance will receive an Adjudication Award: 

High Point will be awarded for all Age Groups and Entry Divisions by Genre, up to 3 places, based on entries. 

Up to 15 entries will be placed for Overall High Point in each age group and entry division. Event credit will be awarded to Overall High Point Winners in the following amounts:

Special recognition for group entries in all levels will be given in the areas of:

Choreography
Technique
Execution
Artistry
Stage Presence
Entertainment

Each studio will also be given the opportunity to vote for Most Admired Studio and Outstanding Sportsmanship Awards.

Our Novice Peak Performance Award will be given to the Top 5-10 Highest Scoring Group Performances regardless of genre or entry division.

CLASSIC

Each performance will receive an Adjudication Award: 

High Point will be awarded for all Age Groups and Entry Divisions by Genre, up to 3 places, based on entries. 

Up to 15 entries will be placed for Overall High Point in each age group and entry division. Event credit will be awarded to Overall High Point Winners in the following amounts:


Special recognition for group entries in all levels will be given in the areas of:

Choreography
Technique
Execution
Artistry
Stage Presence
Entertainment

Each studio will also be given the opportunity to vote for Most Admired Studio and Outstanding Sportsmanship Awards.

Our Classic Peak Performance Award will be given to the Top 5-10 Highest Scoring Group Performances regardless of genre or entry division.

Studios that compete group entries (Small, Large, Line, Production) in at least 3 different Age Groups become eligible for the Summit Studio Award, plus a $250 Cash Prize! This award is determined by averaging the top 5 highest scores across the 3+ Age Groups.

SELECT

Each performance will receive an Adjudication Award: 

High Point will be awarded for all Age Groups and Entry Divisions by Genre, up to 3 places, based on entries. 

Up to 15 entries will be placed for Overall High Point in each age group and entry division. Event credit will be awarded to Overall High Point Winners in the following amounts:

Entertainment

PRE-PRO

Special recognition for group entries in all levels will be given in the areas of:

Artistry
Stage Presence
Entertainment

Each studio will also be given the opportunity to vote for Most Admired Studio and Outstanding Sportsmanship Awards.

Entries in the Pre-Pro Division will be eligible for additional special Judges Awards as well as Scholarship Opportunities to some of the most prestigious training programs in the country.
