PERFORMANCE LEVELS

NOVICE

Suitable for dancers with minimal to no competitive experience who train in entry-level classes.

CLASSIC

Suitable for competitive dancers who train up to 5 hours per week.

SELECT

Suitable for competitive dancers who train 6 or more hours per week.

ADAPTIVE DANCE

Suitable for dancers with special needs or disabilities.

JUDGE QUALIFICATIONS : Novice, Classic and Select level performances will be evaluated by a panel of highly qualified, well-rounded professional educators who have extensive experience working with all ages and levels of dancers.

GENRES

Utilizes classical dance technique with 4 or more acrobatic elements that demonstrate controlled movement and flexibility such as walkover, aerials, back handsprings, etc.

Utilizes ballet technique, including classical steps and movements. Ballet shoes must be worn.

Utilizes clogging technique and style. Clogging shoes must be worn.

Utilizes specific movements to portray a recognizable character.

Utilizes combined styles of jazz and lyrical with an emphasis on modern technique.

Utilizes hip hop, break, street, and funk technique and choreography.

Utilizes jazz technique and style.

Utilizes the lyrics and mood of the music to demonstrate expressive movements.

Utilizes modern technique and style.

Utilizes music from a Broadway Musical or movie to demonstrate movements.

Utilizes a combination of dance styles that do not directly “fit” into one of the above categories.

Utilizes pointe technique, including classical steps and movements. Pointe shoes must be worn.

Utilizes pom-poms to demonstrate precises and definite movements.

Utilizes tap technique and style. Tap shoes must be worn.

PLEASE NOTE : Any routine with a dancer in the Adult Age Group must compete in the Adult Division regardless of the average age of the routine. Routines competing in the Adult Age Group are not eligible for Peak Performance Awards.

CHANGES : All entry divisions, performance levels, genres, and age groups must be finalized by the Monday of event week. No changes will be accepted on site.

TRADITIONAL
ADJUDICATOR

Two of the adjudicators will evaluate each performance on a Traditional 100 point scale. The scoresheet breakdown will be as follows:

TECHNIQUE
ADJUDICATOR

One adjudicator will evaluate and deliver a critique focused on Technique and Execution on a 50 point scale. The scoresheet breakdown for this specialized adjudicator will be as follows:

ARTISTRY
ADJUDICATOR

One adjudicator will evaluate and deliver a critique focused on the Artistry Components on a 50 point scale. The scoresheet breakdown for this specialized adjudicator will be as follows:

10 Pts || OVERALL IMPRESSION

A Note on Appropriateness : We strive to cultivate a family-friendly atmosphere where performances are age appropriate and tasteful. Elevation on Tour will support the judging panel in the deduction of points for inappropriate music, costume, or movement. These deductions will be clearly indicated on the scoresheet and within the critique.

Scores from each of the judges are totaled and an adjudication award is given to each routine based on the following scale:

GENRE HIGH POINT

Genre High Point will be awarded for all Age Groups and Entry Divisions by Genre, up to 3 places, based on entries.

SPECIALTY AWARDS

Judges will vote on Special Recognition for entries in the areas of Artistry, Entertainment, and Costume for all entry divisions. Groups will also be recognized for top Choreography and Technique scores.

OVERALL HIGH POINT

Up to 15 entries will be placed for Overall High Point in each age group and level for Small Groups, Large Groups and Line and by each level regardless of age group for Productions (ties will be broken by the higher Traditional Judge Score). Event credit will be awarded to Overall High Point Winners in the following amounts:

PEAK PERFORMANCE

Our Peak Performance Award will be given to the Top 5-10 Highest Scoring Group Performances in each performance level regardless of genre or entry division.

SUMMIT STUDIO

Studios that compete 1 Group Entry (Small, Large, Line) in 3 different age groups (3 total groups) become eligible for the Summit Studio Award, plus a Cash Prize! There will be a top 3 announced at each regional event. This award is determined by averaging the 3 highest scoring group routines across the 3 age groups (regardless of size, genre, or performance level).

STUDIO RECOGNITION

Each studio will also be given the opportunity to vote for the Most Admired Studio. Our implementation of Studio Recognition is to encourage studios to learn and grow from others in the industry. Our staff will also vote on one studio to receive the Excellence in Character award.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

ONLINE CRITIQUES

All scoresheets and video critiques will be available in your Studio Registration Account within 24 hours after each event.

MUSIC

All music must be uploaded through your registration account one week prior to the competition. We recommend to have your music downloaded on a back-up digital device (ipod/phone) just in case!

ADMISSION

Admission to watch an Elevation on Tour Competition is absolutely FREE!

CONVENTION

At our Convention / Competition events, Dancers must be registered for Convention in order to Compete!

DEPOSIT

A deposit will be required for your registration once an event reaches 90% capacity or the event is 60 days out – whichever comes first!

We work diligently to accommodate scheduling requests and create a schedule that works best for your dancers, parents, and faculty!
